Waterhouse Inspired Embroidered Blue Gown
Waterhouse Inspired Embroidered Gown
Photo by Nina Rizzo. Copyright 2007.
Over a year in the planning, this gold embroidered blue wool flannel gown was inspired by a series of paintings created by Waterhouse.  It seems that not only did the painterly Brotherhood share models, the models shared one blue dress between them.  This appears particularly in Waterhouse's "The Tempest", Waterhouse's "Ophelia" from 1910, Waterhouse's "Fair Rosamund", and "Meeting on the Turret Stairs" by Fredrick William Burton.  Waterhouse's "Destiny" may be the undergown by itself.  Our version of this gown has a gold embroidered Art Nouveau design on the bodice that we digitized from scratch.  The sleeves are fully lined in hand dyed cranberry silk satin.  There is an invisible zipper at the front of the gown.  The full skirts extend into a train at the back.  Shown above with the red linen undergown (not included, but available below for seperate purchase) tucked in at the bodice, the undergown sleeves extend to the wrist.

This prototype gown measures as follows (actual GARMENT measurements) bust to 37", waist to 36", length at the center front 57.5" + 12" train at the center back.  We would be happy to make this gown to your measurements as a custom order - contact us for details!

This red linen gown is based on Waterhouse's "Destiny", which may also be the undergown to several other paintings as noted above.  This handkerchief weight linen gown has full skirts which extend to a train in the back and slips on over the head.  The original undergown with the blue gown above had a small front zipper.  Sash not included.  Actual gown measurements are sleeve, 24" bust to 40", waist to 40", length in center front to hem approximately 55" unbelted, with an additional 12" train in the back.  We would be happy to make this gown to your measurements as a custom order - contact us for details!

This hunter green silk velvet gown was inspired by "La Ghirlandata" as painted by Rossetti.  This luxurious gown features unique faux pearl and peridot colored beads on a silver and gold metallic lurex trim at the neckline.  There is dainty gold cord lacing through small gold rings at the back through the waist to adjust the fullness of this unlined, slip-over-the-head gown.  The lacing is not intended to act as a corset - it is decorative yet functional to adjust the gown itself.  Unlaced gown measures 37" at the bustline, 35" at the waistline, 55" neck to hem at the front - the back has a 7" train.

Steampunk Mrs. Claus ensemble
This steampunk style outfit is based on a Janet Arnold historic reference from 1874 -1877.  The center front and center back bodice panels are in metallic gold pleather.  The remainder of the bodice is hunter green silk velvet with tiny gold sparkles.  There is a tiny watch pocket at the left front side.  The bodice snaps up the front and has a ruffled lace collar, and the body of the jacket is fully lined with cotton twill, but is not boned.

The red cotton velvet skirt has an arrangement of tapes that gather the back and pull it in at the sides.  There are hook and eyes on the tapes and skirt that allow the train (shown above) to be pulled up for walking.  The front panel of the skirt is a jacquard with a leaf and vine design in red and green.  There is a gold trim around the base of the skirt.

The ensemble shown above was modeled with several garments underneath.  A corset, petticoat, and bustle are recommended to achieve the shape shown - but these are not included with the outfit.

The bodice measures 36.5" bust, 29" waist, 21" long at center front.  The skirt measures 43" long at the center front and has a 29" waist.

Esgaroth Elven Gown
Based on the clothing of the Mirkwood elves, this gown was created for the Rainfall Films "Arrival at Esgaroth". It has two layers attached to one another - the underlayer is an ombre dyed satin that is olive green at the shoulders, fading to burgundy and finally to a deep purple at the hemline.  This exact ombre dyed fabric is no longer manufactured.  Over the satin is a translucent shimmering layer of bronze organza embroidered overall with a leaf and vine pattern.  The front closure is held by brass filigree buttons and button loops.  The gown slips on easily over the head with a few of these buttons undone.  This elven style gown with petal shaped sleeves may be worn with your favorite belt or sash, or as shown here.  This unique gown itself measures 40" bust, 36" waist, 50" hips and 59" in length center front and 64" nape to hem as there is a small train. Please allow a couple of inches ease above your body measurements for a proper fit.  As we have no more of this material, we are unable to make this dress in another size.

The pictures below show this gown in different lighting conditions so you can see how the gown shimmers in the light.

To see this elven inspired dress in action, please view the Rainfall Films Showreel here.
